Okay, enough whining about the weather. When we went to Italy I thought I might come back dissatisfied with Saskatoon, but really I gained a new appreciation for it.We're not mentioning weather here, just some other things. However, the extreme changes in seasons make us enjoy them more. Spring is grander because it's so different and welcome. Summer activities are pursued with gusto. The colours in fall are magnificent. Saskatoon in fall is my favourite. It's blue, blue skies and yellow leaves and shocks of red thrown in. It really IS harvest time.People are nuts about gardening. Most of us are within one or two generations off the farm.
So here's a list of some other things I love about Saskatoon.
1.My family is here.
2.The greenspace.The river.Lots of parks.The child-friendliness.
3.I love how friendly most people are. And how down-to-earth.Not really frivolous. We try to dress nicely, but it's life-or-death if you don't dress for the weather sometimes.
4. It's clean. It's not all squished together. There's room to breathe.
5.Nice restaurants.
6 Big enough for good concerts, but small enough that you could drive anywhere in the city in under half an hour.
7.The festival season. There are a few festivals in the winter, then in June, with the start of the Childrens Festival, they run pretty much back-to-back, and some overlap. You don't even have to go to them to enjoy them. One year I sat on the roof of my house to watch the fireworks on the riverbank. Annie and I sat on the rooftop deck at the Yard and Flagon to watch the snowbirds fly over for the air show.
Okay, your turn. What do you like about Saskatoon?
